Our design spidey sense perks up when we begin to notice a product in home after home. Back in February, CB2 debuted a new stool that possessed all the hallmarks of staying power: compact yet elegant proportions; a matte metal base in the style of wrought iron; and four luxe and versatile upholstery options. Since then, we’ve seen it crop up in all kinds of projects, from a moody Georgian Revival in Pennsylvania to a bright new-build in Toronto.
Autumn Oser, co-founder of Haldon House, chose the graceful Journey stools for a regal great room (see above) to sit between the coffee table and fireplace. “They bring a touch of old-world glamour that pairs beautifully with the dark burl wood and smoked glass chandeliers,” she says. “Their deep tones and sculptural silhouette deepen the room’s sultry, sophisticated mood.”

With Art Deco style roaring back onto the scene in the interiors world, it’s no wonder that these pieces, designed by NYC-based Brett Beldock, feel of-the-moment yet timeless. There’s some drama in the silhouette—those graceful swags from one leg to the other!—without going overboard with the details. (The shape immediately reminded our home editor Lydia Geisel of the Rodin design by Athena Calderone for Crate & Barrel, but at a more affordable price and in a covetable stool size.)
Beyond the Oser-approved rust red, the chic design comes in a dusty green velvet and luxe shearling, as well as a checkerboard cotton blend. Reviewers comment that it looks “high end”, is “comfortable and easy to style”, and is “sturdy and elegant.” Place two in front of a bed, under a window, or next to a fireplace, as seen in a living room by Toronto-based Design State. Or there’s a 60-inch bench version, if you want to streamline the look.
Below, see it styled in four very different ways, proof of its all-around appeal.
